Merrill Singer
Professor Anthropology and Public Health
I am a cultural and medical anthropologist with a dual appointment as a Professor in the Department of Anthropology and as a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Health, Intervention and Prevention. Additionally, I am a member of the executive committee of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) at Yale University. I have directed federally funded drinking, drug use, sexual risk, community and interpersonal violence, and AIDS prevention studies since 1984. My current research focuses on both drug use and HIV risk and environmental health issues, including a growing focus on the impact of global warming on international health. I have conducted research in recent years in the U.S., Brazil, China, and Haiti.
