The Native American studies minor fits squarely with the University’s curricular emphasis on promoting knowledge and appreciation of cultural diversity. Students will receive in-depth exposure to a variety of lifeways that comprise the Native American presence. They will come to appreciate native worldviews, ecology, arts and literature, social relations, and the events and processes of history that have helped shape their present diversity of cultures. They will come to know Native’s prehistoric past as well as their political and legal statuses as a special category of American citizens. (A total of 18 credits are required.)
